This site invites registered voters in the town of Scituate, Rhode Island to learn about the Home Rule Charter process. Scituate registered voters were invited to participate in the signing of a petition as outlined in Article XIII of the Rhode Island Constitution as the first step in the process. This petition was initiated by Ruth Strach, North Scituate and Mary Morse, Hope.
Thank you to the many, enthusiastic, registered voters of Scituate who supported the Home Rule Charter petition! On Friday, April 6, the petition for a Home Rule Charter was submitted to the Scituate Town Clerk. The petition contained 1755 signatures representing almost 20% of the registered voters in Scituate. 1715 signatures were verified by the Scituate Board of Canvassors.
The second step was to participate in the Ballot scheduled on June 28. Acccording to election results, 1585 registered voters in Scituate participated in this historic event! The Home Rule process to develop a charter for the town of Scituate was approved by 1414 voters! Thank you Scituate!
